Yesterday I was watching the World Superbike and World Supersport races at Brands Hatch on TV. During the re-started World Supersport race a horrific accident happened. British rider Craig Jones lost control of his Honda bike through the fast Clark Curve towards the end of the lap, while he was battling for his first WSS win in his home event.
The 23-year old rider lost the rear of his Honda, sliding almost completely sideways before being thrown violently backwards onto the asphalt. Australian rider Andrew Pitt attempted to avoid him, but he was left with nowhere to go and clipped Craig Jones on the head. Craig Jones then spiralled uncontrollably down the track. The race was immediately stopped and Jones was later diagnosed with a serious head injury.
When I saw this accident happen I feared the worst. I was screaming at the TV for the Marshall’s to stop the race before other riders would hit Craig Jones who was laying on the track unconscious. Despite the horrible accident Craig Jones was awarded second position in the race. Everyone was waiting for some updates on his condition, but non were given other than that he was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital. Unfortunately I just read the news that Craig Jones has lost the fight for his life.
I would like to send my deepest sympathies to Craig’s family and friends.

That’s such sad news. Such a young person - all too soon to be leaving us. Our deepest sympathies go out to Craig’s family and friends too.
